In 2019 worldwide, 260 million Christians have been persecuted because of their faith

Category: Headlines
Published: January 26 2020

The association “Open Doors” has just published its World Index of Persecution of Christians. Over 260 million Christians are severely persecuted worldwide. Arbitrary arrests of Christians and the number of targeted churches are increasing dramatically. It is mainly Christians in positions of authority who are targeted and threatened, arrested or murdered. A large part of the populations of the countries in the Index classification show a hostile attitude towards Christians. Whether in daily life, at work, in the freedom to live their faith or in their dealings with the authorities, they are victims of massive discrimination and persecution. During the period taken into account for its analyzes, from November 1, 2018 to October 31, 2019, “Open Doors” has listed some 9,500 closings, attacks or destructions of churches and religious institutions, compared to 1850 the previous year.
