Built with dedication in the spirit of profound Orthodox faith by the families of the first Romanian emigrants to Canada, the Romanian Orthodox Cathedral of St. George and St. Andrew Saguna celebrated on Sunday, October 20, the 101st anniversary since its foundation.
His Grace Bishop Ioan Casian, Romanian Orthodox Bishop of Canada sent a warm and encouraging message of blessing, emphasizing that “we owe our existence as Christians to God and to those who preceded us. We are the result of the arch over time that those who have preceded us through their perseverance and work in the light of God have fulfilled. They are the example of the man or people full of the grace of God who knew in better or less good days not to let the winds of doubt and difficulties carry themselves, but to continue with the conviction in the way of God with their families. We also intend to set up other churches, communities of faith, which will know how to lay the same foundation that will show at the same time the continuity with the work of the grace of God, with the zeal and dignity of the forefathers, as well as the creative and innovative capacity of each generation to the glory of God and to the edification of the society in which we live. ”
A memorial service was held in memory of the past priests and founders of the Church. Looking at our Sunday School children lifting the coliva and sweet bread and praying for our ancestor, was indeed an arch over time as our Bishop said, a beautiful recognition that the present generation has brought to the founders and a good reminder that we must build with each Liturgy the faith and the love for Romanian spirit in the souls of the new generation.
Over the years, distinguish priests and dedicated workers of Christ served in our church like: Metropolitan Bartolomeu Anania, Fr. Archimandrite Felix Dubneac; Father Paulin Popescu, Father Simion Caplat who left behind their moral landmaks, strengthening and encouraging the Windsor community.
A brotherly agape took place at the end of the warm autumn afternoon in Windsor. Young students from the community enrolled in the Universities and Colleges of Ontario, graduates of the Parochial School, received the Scholarships Awards. The Scholarship program represents the tie by which the contemporary generation opens the arch over time, offering to our youngster recognition for their hard work, stimulating excellence.
At 101 anniversary, with great enthusiasm and a desire for wisdom, with godliness towards the protecting saints - St. George and St. Andrew Șaguna - we have, the Romanian Orthodox community in Windsor looks forward to the future that it builds in every prayer.
In Windsor, in fear of God, with faith and peace, we are approaching the Chalice of Salvation and we ask Christ to strengthen this community of Romanians and its new parish priest Father Deian Vesici.
