On Sunday, March 4, 10:00 am, the first Divine Liturgy took place at the Holy Trinity Mission in Calgary, at the Cedarbrae Community Center, transformed for a few hours into a spiritual place. About 100 people took part in the service officiated by Rev. Father Ovidiu Moldovan. Each family received on their arrival the first edition of the weekly bulletin that aims to present to the parishioners the agenda of the day, Sunday information, Christian parables and stories, a prayer as well as contact details. "Welcome at the Holy Trinity Romanian Orthodox Mission in Calgary! Your presence in the midst of us is greatly appreciated, and we pray that God will bless you spiritually with much grace and spiritual peace" says the greeting read by parishioners in the newsletter received.
At the end of the Divine Liturgy, Rev. Fr. Moldovan thanked all those who contributed to the foundation of the new mission, those who donated things and objects and volunteers who helped. Those present could find out more about the new priest. He served in Mures County for 15 years, until 2011 when he immigrated with his family to Calgary. His desire is to see people discovering the joy of prayer and friendship in this new community. "We first gathered in Christ, and secondly as fellow Christians and brothers," said the new priest. It was emphasized the desire for the Church to maintain its traditions, the Romanian language and customs. It will also pay special attention to children and young people as generations who will carry on the faith and the Christian traditions with an open heart and soul.
Also on this day, the members of the Parish Council elected at the meeting of February 24 took the oath. The nine members pledged to faithfully fulfill their roles, respecting church laws and regulations and the status of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada.
Since the first religious service took place between the two spring celebrations March 1st and 8th, all women and young ladies present received from on behalf of the new mission a traditional rose and pendant gift. The little attentions were an unexpected surprise and were received with smiles and thanks. And the children received the first coloring drawing to be from the education program "The Icon from the Child's Soul." On Palm Sunday the best drawings will be presented and awarded.
The Sunday program ended with a brotherly agape, an opportunity for those present to taste the food for the first Parastas and to exchange with one another.
