His Grace Bishop Ioan Casian Attended a Festive Celebration
for the Armenian Community in Canada
On Friday, July 10, 2026, His Grace Bishop Ioan Casian attended a special anniversary celebration honoring Archbishop Papken Tcharian, Primate of the Armenian Prelacy of Cilicia in Canada, on the occasion of the 42nd anniversary of his priestly ministry, the 20th anniversary of his episcopal consecration, and 10 years of archpastoral service in Canada.
The event took place at the Vanier College Auditorium in Montreal and brought together a distinguished gathering of participants, including representatives of the Anglican Diocese of Montreal, provincial and municipal authorities, as well as representatives of Armenian parishes and leaders of Armenian communities from Montreal and other regions of Canada. Numerous clergy and faithful were also present to pay tribute to the Archbishop, whose ministry over the past decade has made a significant contribution to strengthening the spiritual and communal life of Armenians in Canada.
The celebratory program highlighted the principal milestones of Archbishop Papken Tcharian's pastoral and missionary ministry, recalling more than four decades of priestly service and two decades of episcopal leadership. Particular emphasis was placed on his devotion to the Church, his commitment to preserving the Armenian spiritual and cultural heritage, his concern for the education of younger generations, and his constant involvement in ecumenical and interreligious dialogue.
The evening was enriched by a cultural program featuring the choirs of two Armenian parishes from the Greater Montreal area, together with performers from other Armenian communities across Canada. They presented works inspired by the rich liturgical tradition of the Armenian people, both in their ancient forms, preserved through the centuries, and in modern harmonizations. The festive atmosphere of gratitude and fellowship reflected the esteem in which Archbishop Papken Tcharian is held by the Armenian faithful and by Canadian society.
During the celebration, His Grace Bishop Ioan Casian extended his congratulations to Archbishop Papken Tcharian for his long and fruitful ministry, emphasizing the importance of such occasions in strengthening the bonds of fellowship among Christian communities.
"Participating in this anniversary celebration means far more than simply attending a festive event; it is an expression of gratitude for a fruitful ministry and a testimony to the bonds of friendship, mutual respect, and cooperation that unite our communities, - witnessed the Romanian Orthodox Bishop of Canada. Such gatherings strengthen our conviction that dialogue, solidarity, and faith form the foundation of a society in which diversity becomes a source of mutual enrichment.
I was especially moved by the beauty of the Armenian liturgical music, which preserves the living memory of a faith witnessed throughout the centuries. The sobriety and profound depth of these chants are not merely an expression of the spiritual heritage of the Armenian Church, but also an invitation to prayer, inner harmony, and communion in our longing for God. Through its theological richness and artistic beauty, this musical tradition speaks to all believers of fidelity to the Gospel and of the hope that springs from faith in Christ."
At the conclusion of the celebration, Archbishop Papken Tcharian expressed his gratitude to all those in attendance for their presence, their messages of congratulations, and their support throughout the years of his pastoral ministry in Canada.
