Pastoral Message

For the Feast of Pentecost

2026

Very Reverend Fathers,

Beloved Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

On the Sunday of Pentecost, we come to church filled with joy, deep faith, and humility to celebrate the Feast of the Descent of the Holy Spirit, a sealing and mysterious event in the history of our salvation. This is the day when God the Father, in His infinite love and as a perfect gift, sent His Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and all those gathered in Jerusalem, thus making His plan of salvation a living and personal reality for us and for the community of believers—that is, for the Church.

On this day, the Holy Spirit makes present an event of the past, transforming it into a continuous reality for us. He opens the soul, heart, and mind of each person to receive this divine blessing, this river of living water that transforms and elevates us completely.

The words of the Acts of the Apostles remind us of the moment when, in Jerusalem, tongues as of fire appeared and rested upon each of the Apostles. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance (Acts 2:4). This extraordinary and unique manifestation was a profound revelation of the presence and work of the Holy Spirit in the life of every believer. The tongues of fire symbolize the holiness and light that the Holy Spirit brings into our souls and into the world, while the speaking in various languages reveals the universality of the Gospel, showing that God's love knows no limits and recognizes no cultural, linguistic, or social barriers. We are all called to be witnesses of this divine love, and it is the Holy Spirit who grants us the courage and the words needed to do so.

This day also reminds us that the Holy Spirit is not an abstract or distant presence, but a living reality close to each one of us. He remains not merely a promise made by Christ, but becomes a tangible gift that fills and sanctifies our lives. On this day, God calls us to open our hearts and receive this river of living water with faith and humility.

In a world filled with trials, suffering, and confusion, the Holy Spirit becomes the power that strengthens, enlightens, and encourages us to move forward, to love, and to serve God with joy.

The words of the Lord in the Gospel remind us of the promise of living water: “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water” (John 7:38). This living water is the Holy Spirit, who, when He enters our soul, becomes an inexhaustible fountain of love, joy, hope, and communion with God. He is the power that enables us to live in truth and love even amid the greatest trials of life.

On the day of Pentecost, let us remember that this river of living water becomes a living reality for each one of us and for the community of believers when it is received with open hearts and living faith.

The Holy Scripture says: “For as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified” (John 7:39). This teaches us that only after His Resurrection and Ascension was the Holy Spirit sent in fullness to be with us, guiding and strengthening us in every step of our lives.

On Pentecost, we must remember that without this divine presence our spiritual life remains without strength and purpose. But with the gift of the Spirit, we can flourish, grow in faith, and become true witnesses of divine love in every aspect of our lives.

The Feast of the Descent of the Holy Spirit therefore calls us to a profound renewal of our relationship with God and with our neighbor. Let us pray for the gifts of wisdom, courage, and love, so that this ineffable presence may become an integral part of each day of our lives. Let us not forget that the Holy Spirit is not merely a personal gift, but a power that unites the whole Church and all humanity in a holy and loving communion. On this day, we are called to be aware of our responsibility to carry this living water into the world, into our families, our communities, and every aspect of our lives.

On this feast day, let us open our entire being to receive this gift from above. Let us pray that the Holy Spirit may grant us wisdom and strength to become witnesses of God's love and peace. Let us live in the light and power of the Spirit, so that He may spring forth from within each of us and bring forth abundant fruit for the Kingdom of Heaven. Like the Apostles, let us become witnesses of divine love, carrying within our souls that irresistible power bestowed by the Holy Spirit.

On this Feast of Pentecost, let us be fully assured that the Holy Spirit guides us, strengthens us, and gives us the power to live in truth, love, and unity. Let us always remain open to the gift of the Holy Spirit. Let us allow ourselves to be carried by this living water and share it with all those around us. Only in this way can we truly become sons and daughters of God, filled with grace and love, and help make this world a better place, filled with peace, harmony, and light.

Let us celebrate this day with joy and living faith, so that we may always be filled with the Holy Spirit, and that the rivers of living water of divine grace may continually flow from within us, bearing abundant fruit for the salvation of all. Amen.
