Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in Montreal
January 25, 2026
As part of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, on Sunday, January 25, 2026, in Montreal, an ecumenical prayer event took place, hosted by the Armenian Apostolic Cathedral of St. Hagop and organized by the Armenian Prelacy of Canada, in collaboration with the Alliance of Middle Eastern Christians and the Canadian Centre for Ecumenism.
The theme of this year’s edition, “Light from Light, for Light”, inspired by the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed, was chosen on the occasion of the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea, emphasizing the shared confession of the Christian faith in Christ, the Son of God: “Light from Light, True God from True God.”
The event brought together hierarchs, clergy, and faithful from various Christian denominations in a spirit of mutual respect and theological reflection on the call of Christians to unity. Through biblical readings, prayers, and meditations, participants were invited to rediscover the meaning of divine light as a source of communion, witness, and hope in a world marked by division and challenges.
Representing the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada, His Grace Bishop Ioan Casian participated alongside representatives of other Churches and Christian communities in the Montreal region. The hierarch was accompanied by Protos. Maxim Morariu, Mother Ana Bulgariu, and Mr. Adrian Pătru.
The event highlighted the importance of fidelity to the apostolic faith and the common tradition of the Church, as well as the need for responsible dialogue and cooperation among Christians, as a living testimony to the Gospel in contemporary society.
The participation of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada in this event reaffirms its commitment to supporting inter-Christian dialogue, in the spirit of peace, respect, and responsibility, without diminishing the identity and witness of the Orthodox faith.
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity remains an opportunity for reflection and prayer, calling Christians to bear witness to the Light of Christ, source of unity, truth, and life.
