Message for Thanksgiving Day

“Give thanks in all things...”

(1 Thessalonians 5:18)

Reverend Fathers,

Beloved Faithful,

As Canadian society pauses these days to celebrate Thanksgiving Day, the Church invites us to reflect more deeply on the spiritual meaning of gratitude - as a work of the heart, as a fruit of faith, and as a sign of trust in God's will.

The Holy Apostle Paul tells us plainly: “Give thanks in all things, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

Not only for the good, but for everything - for every moment, for every visible or invisible gift, for every trial that has brought us closer to God, and for every joy that has strengthened our bond with those we love.

Gratitude is not a mere formality, but one of the deepest expressions of a heart that lives in God. It is a quiet confession that in all things, and through all things, He is working out our salvation.

Amidst the busyness of daily life, the challenges of our times, and the uncertainties that surround us, we echo the apostolic exhortation to keep the flame of faith burning: “Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast to what is good. Abstain from every form of evil.” (1 Thessalonians 5:19–22)

May this special day be an opportunity for prayer, reflection, and the strengthening of our family and community ties. Let us not forget that true blessing is born in hearts that know how to give thanks, and peace finds its place where a person recognizes God’s loving presence in their life.

On this occasion, we wish you all peace in your soul, gratitude in your heart, and God’s blessing upon your homes. And above all, may: “The God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thessalonians 5:23)

With archpastoral blessing and heartfelt thanksgiving to God,
