The meeting of the Diocesan Council

of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada

On Thursday, October 3, 2024, the meeting of the Diocesan Council of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada took place.

Several problems of an administrative - ecclesiastical and pastoral nature within the Diocese were discussed.

It was decided to offer several awards to some of the priests of the Diocese and lay members of the parishes in recognition of their contribution to the pastoral and administrative activity within the Diocese.

The ordination of several theologians on behalf of three parishes was discussed and approved. Different ways of solving certain difficulties at the inter-church and inter-jurisdictional level were proposed and discussed.

The new remodeling, renovation or construction projects underway within the Diocese were mentioned - St. Martyr George and St. Epictetus and Astion Cathedral – Saint-Hubert (Quebec), Dormition of the Mother of God Parish – Boian (Alberta), Nativity of the Mother of God Parish – Gatineau (Quebec), St. Stephen the Great and St. Nectary Parish – Oshawa (Ontario) and others.

Also, it was discussed the possible funding programs, other than diocesan ones, of the diocesan magazine The Word, the stage of the Teofania colportage project - church objects and vestments, icons and books of worship or theology - which would help the parishes and the faithful of the Diocese.

During the meeting, Rev. Fr. Dragoș Giulea was appointed director of the St. Maxim the Confessor Cultural - Theological and Catechetical Training Center, with the other positions to be filled during the General Assembly in November.

Several solutions were discussed and proposed to improve and streamline the coordination of activities within the Diocese and between the three Deaneries and parishes. It was also emphasized the need for the archpriests of the Deaneries at the local level, but also the parish priests and the lay representatives of the parishes, to be more involved in a better coordination of the activities within the Diocese.

It was recalled the ways to proceed and inform regarding the visits of hierarchs, priests or deacons from other dioceses to the parishes of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada.

The various programs and initiatives approved in the past at the diocesan level were reviewed and various ways were proposed to dynamize or made them more efficient.

At the end of the meeting, the financial situation for the last months was presented and the date of the next meeting was set.
