Communion and prayer
at Elevation of the Holy Cross Mission in Edmonton
As every year, on September 14, the Orthodox Church celebrates the feast of the Elevation of the Holy Cross, one of the most important celebrations of Christianity.
The Feast of the Elevation of the Holy Cross is also main feast day of the new Orthodox mission in Edmonton, Alberta, established in 2023 under the jurisdiction of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada.
The celebration of the feast day of the new mission on September 14 and 15, within our Christian community represented an event with a lot of spiritual charge. We had the joy of celebrating the Holy Liturgy in the presence of Fr. Călin Mărincaș dean for Canada West (Saskatoon), Fr. Mircea Panciuk Archpriest Emeritus (Montreal), Fr. Cristian Bujor (Airdrie), Fr. Florin Porumb parish priest, with the blessing of His Grace Bishop Ioan Casian. The liturgical services and the prayers said introduced us to the horizon of fraternal communion, blessing our spiritual efforts.
At the same time, the celebration of the feast day of our mission was a good opportunity to remind us, with piety and great joy, the special moments of this first year of our pastoral activity.
Surrounded by the love and warmth of the faithful, we tried to encourage the spiritual life of the members of our mission, through actions of a pastoral-missionary, social-charitable, cultural nature, but also by revitalizing the liturgical life so that more and more of its believers , attend the holy services on Sundays and feasts, confess, share and live a life in accordance with the ethos and morals of the Gospel.
Through the performance of the Sacrament of the Holy Anointing of sick, through the prayers and the sermons, we tried to bring relief and comfort to those who need God's mercy and help.
We give glory and worship to God for all the accomplishments, and we ask Him to pour out His grace and His love on us and on our entire Christian and Romanian people who love God.
