The Day of the Union of the Principalities celebrated at the Episcopal Cathedral of Saint-Hubert

On Wednesday, January 24, the they of the Union of the Principalties was also celebrated at the Episcopal Cathedral dedicated to "The Great Martyr George and the Holy Martyrs Epictetus and Astion" in Saint-Hubert, QC. At 11 o'clock a.m., His Grace Ioan Casian, the Romanian Orthodox Bishop of Canada, celebrated the Te-Deum service. His Grace was accompanied by the protos. Maxim Morariu and deacon Valentin Boțu.

As the hierarch wanted to emphasize, the Union event of January 24, 1859 comes to write a beautiful page in the history of Romania and constitute an important preliminary stage in the constitution of the modern state:

"The role of the Church in realizing the great events of our national history was an overwhelming one. It should not be omitted that Metropolitans Nifon and Sofronie Miclescu were the ones who had a noteworthy contribution in the election of Alexandru Ioan Cuza in both Principalities. Then, we must not neglect the fact that events of a secular nature have always had a beautiful impact on those of an ecclesiastical nature and vice versa. Thus, the Union of the Principalities will be followed by the consolidation of certain church structures and the increase in the level of theological education in the Principalities, but also by the acquisition, in 1885, of the Autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in the Principalities, and the Great Union was shortly followed by the establishment, in the year 1925, of the Romanian Patriarchate”, emphasized His Grace.

Praised be Lord for everything!

Protoss. Dr. Maxim Morariu
