Patriarch DANIEL: The Boian of the Romanian Bucovina

ROMANIAN PATRIARCHATE

† DANIEL

Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church

The Boian of the Romanian Bucovina[*]

The anniversary of 125 years of the Romanian Orthodox Christian presence in Boian, Canada, is a blessed event for our Church in general, but especially for the Romanian Orthodox community in this township.

The spiritual needs of the Romanians far from the country have determined the Romanian Orthodox Church to have as a pastoral priority the strengthening of the Romanian communities in the Romanian diaspora, a new reality that has received an unprecedented scale in the history of the Romanian people. Although far from their native places, Romanians in the diaspora are close to their country through every Divine Liturgy performed in the Romanian language, where they listen to the Holy Gospel and share into Christ the Lord. Due to the distance from their country and their loved ones, the Romanians living among foreigners better understand the words of the Scripture:

"For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come." (Hebrews 13, 14).

The Dormition of the Mother of God Parish in Boian, clergy and believers, have been witness to the Christian - Orthodox life lived in this Boian of Romanian Bucovina. The historical presence of Romanians in Canada, for 125 years, shows that they knew how to draw inspiration from the history of the Romanians at home, who resisted the hardships of their times and who built a country that will bear witness to the ages.

I learned with sadness about the fire that consumed the historic church in Boian, on June 6, 2023, but I received with great joy the news about your decision to build a new church, inspired by the model of the previous one.

We congratulate and encourage you to realize this new soul project, which will continue the confession of the Romanian Orthodox Christian faith in this part of the world.

On the anniversary of 125 years of Romanian presence in Boian, Canada, we also congratulate His Grace Bishop Ioan Casian of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada, the entire Romanian Orthodox community in this township, as well as all the clergy and lay believers present at this holy and solemn event of Christian spirituality and dignity.

We pray to the Lord Jesus Christ to give you all peace and joy, health, and salvation, to the glory of the Holy Trinity and the joy of the Church of Christ.

With appreciation and blessing,

† DANIEL

Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church
