HG Bishop Ioan Casian invited to Gala Meritas 2023

of the Junimea Romanian School in Montreal

Saturday June 10 HG Bishop Ioan Casian was present at Gala Meritas 2023 of Junimea Romanian School in Montreal. It is the celebration that ends the school year for its students. On this occasion they receive diplomas and prizes for the results achieved.

The school's coordinator - Mrs. Otilia Tunaru - is surrounded by a dedicated group of teachers and people loving not only the Romanian language and culture, but also eager of achieving very good results with the students registered with them. Consul General Cristina Marinescu, Mrs. Magda Popeanu, Vice-President of the Executive Council of Montreal City Hall, Mr. Dan Mieilă, President of the Romanian Community of Monteregie, etc. were also present at the event, together with HG Bishop Ioan Casian.

The artistic program consisted of songs and poetry. Also, the Vatra folk dance ensemble delighted the eyes of those present with dancing and cheerfulness.

Officials were invited to deliver a message to those present. In his speech, the Romanian hierarch of Canada said: "I am glad for the opportunity to be present at this Romanian event full of enthusiasm and Romanian sentiment. I want to give address to you for the invitation received in this regard. I would like to congratulate the coordinator of the Junimea Romanian School - Mrs. Otilia Tunaru - and all those who have been participating in this wonderful initiative for many years - teachers and volunteers. It proves perseverance, love for Romanian culture and for our young people the desire to achieve good results in education.

The family, the school and the Church were the defining essential components in the formation of our Romanian identity. As a Church, we are with all those who participate in this special project that requires a lot of effort, creativity, and sacrifice, and we encourage them to go further. We congratulate everyone, young and old."

On the same occasion, the hierarch recalled the sad event of the fire that consumed the Dormition of the Mother God Parish church in Boian and invited those present to keep the members of this community in their prayer.
