The second edition of the "Saint George" chess tournament for young people and teenagers at the
Episcopal Cathedral of Saint-Hubert
With the blessing of His Grace Ioan Casian, the Romanian Orthodox Bishop of Canada, on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at the Episcopal Cathedral "Saint George the Great Martyr" and "Holy Martyrs Epictetus and Astion" in Saint-Hubert, QC, took place the second edition of the chess tournament under the patronage of the octotitor of the holy place.
The event, now in its second edition, was organized by the coordinator of the Cathedral chess club, Mr. Cezar Vitencu, in collaboration with the newspaper "Zig Zag Român Canadian", coordinator Dr. Răzvan-Ionuț Dupleac and the "Romanian School Junimea" from Montreal, coordinator Otilia Tunaru and brought together over 50 young Romanians from Montreal, Gatineau, Ottawa and the surrounding area. All the young people received participation diplomas, pens, badges and icons provided by the kindness of the local tenant, and the awardees benefited from diplomas, medals and trophies. Also, thanks to the care of the organizers and the Episcopal Cathedral team, the participants had snacks throughout the tournament.
"This event, which has become a tradition for the Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of Canada" and for our Cathedral, is a real emblem. Along with several other beautiful moments, generally organized by young people like those from ROYA, he comes to show young people that the Church offers the right framework for prayer and creates bridges of meeting and dialogue, both between Romanians from different corners of Canada, and between young people . We sincerely thank Mr. Cezar Vitencu for the sustained efforts and the particularly difficult work put in to achieve it. We hope that beautiful friendships were made today and that the young people who are today's participants and prize winners will be tomorrow's organizers of this tournament", declared protos. Dr. Maxim Morariu, ecclesiarch of the Episcopal Cathedral.
