"The Voice Calling in the Wilderness" movie premiere in Montreal
On April 28, 2023, starting at 7 p.m., at the Cinema du Musee in Montreal, took place the premiere of the film "The Voice Calling in the Wilderness," dedicated to Father Gheorghe Calciu-Dumitreasa, already awarded at several prestigious film festivals. The event was attended by the several hundred Romanians and His Grace Bishop Ioan Casian, as well as the director, Father Ciprian Mega.
In the beginning of the manifestation, Fr. Protosyncell PhD. Maxim Morariu, the ecclesiarch of the Episcopal Cathedral "Saint George the Great Martyr" in Saint-Hubert, QC, addressed everyone a word of welcome, evoked the bright memory of Father Calciu and the role he played in the establishment of St. George the Great Martyr parish. Then, His Grace Bishop Ioan Casian addressed few words of blessing to both the participants and the director father:
"We are happy to be the host of such an event and to pay tribute to a man of Father Calciu's caliber. We congratulate father Ciprian Mega for making this film and we are happy that we were able to host such a cultural event", declared His Grace.
Then, the Canadian producer Claus Kren spoke about father Mega's directorial record and the film, cast and awards he received. The discourses were followed by the screening of the movie. Later on, there was a question and answer session with the director, Father Ciprian Mega. Viewers thus had the opportunity to learn more about the genesis of the film, the sources of inspiration, the technical and spiritual issues that were behind the endeavor.
"I consider it a natural act for the Romanian Orthodox Church to include him on the canonization list from 2025, along with other people who suffered under communism Father Gheorghe Calciu too,” Father Mega emphasized.
The event brought together people who love the culture, Romanian and Canadian filmmakers, but also those who knew Father Calciu.
