Night Vigil

at „Saint George the Great Martyr” Episcopal Cathedral

in Saint-Hubert, QC

The Holy Martyrs and Confessors from Transylvania were celebrated in a special way at "Saint Great Martyr George" Episcopal Cathedral in Saint-Hubert. With the blessing of His Grace Bishop Ioan Casian their feast day was marked by a night vigil. The event began on October 20, starting at 8 p.m., with the Vigil service, performed by the ruling-bishop of the Romanians from the Canadian lands and continued until late at night, culminating with the Divine Liturgy.

In his sermon, the hierarch spoke about how, in the life of the Transylvanian Saints, confession has both a theological and a social dimension and brought to attention the perennial value of their message:

"They are people of different origins, from Transylvania or Bosnia, like Saint Visarion. They felt the call of God and consecrated themselves, either in the monastic life, or in that of a simple believer to the cause of the Romanians in a world where they had no rights. They became ambassadors and went to Vienna to demand rights on behalf of the Romanians. Some of them will end up in the prison of sad memory in Kufstein. This is how the Saints of Transylvania are not only concerned with religious life, but also with social life. They ask not only religious rights, but also civil rights,", emphasized the His Grace Bishop Ioan Casian.

At the end of the event, those present had the joy of worshiping the relics of the Holy Martyrs Brâncoveni, of the Holy Hierarchs Andrei Șaguna and Grigorie Dascălul and of Saint Irodion from Lainici. Praise be the Lord for everything!
