COLLOQUIUM

ST. JOHN CASSIAN

spiritual guide, example of monastic humility

and model of the Christian dialogue between cultures

Sunday, February 28, 2021

4:00 pm ET (Canada/Montreal time)

23h00 (Romanian time)

(via Zoom/Facebook)

We are in the Homage Year of the Pastoral Care of Romanians abroad and we want to address some themes from the life, activity and writings of the one of the protectors of Romanians from afar and of the Romanian Orthodox Diocese of Canada.

St. John Cassian was born in Dobrogea, began his education and spiritual life in those lands, went and trained at the school of the Great Fathers of the Egyptian desert and then bore fruit in the lands of Gaul, in Marseilles, being one of the most read authors in the Christian West.

In the Dobrogean lands of today's Romania, the Christian life of apostolic origin emerged from the very first years of the 1st century AD. The citadel of Tomis became one of the important ecclesiastical and theological centers from the first centuries, as evidenced by the presence of the local bishops at the Ecumenical Councils. It still testifies over time about the antiquity of the Christian life on Romanian soil, the dynamism and inspiration that animated the Romanian communities for two millennia.

In the series of events dedicated to the Homage Year of Pastoral Care of the Romanians abroad and to the Commemorative Year of those asleep in the Lord; liturgical and cultural value of cemeteries - 2021 you are invited on Sunday, February 28, 2021 at 4:00 pm ET (Canadian time) to the colloquium dedicated to St. John Cassian.

His Eminence TEODOSIE - Archbishop of Tomis

  • John Cassian - elements of a spiritual contour: monasticism, mission and friendship

Protosyncellus IUSTIN PETRE - abbot - St. John Cassian Monastery

  • Between discernment and vigilance in the writings of St. John Cassian
